National Nest Box Week
National Nest Box Week
The sun is starting to shine, snow drops are out and daffodils are starting to emerge. It means only one thing Spring is on its way! And that brings with it the nesting season. Between February 14th and February 21st 2013 it is national
nest box
week. Organised by BTO to encourage everyone to put up a nest box, whether in a garden or a local area. This is to enhance biodiversity and conservation of our breeding birds and wildlife. It also enables you to
observe
breeding birds and wildlife you attract to your garden. This year the focus is on
common swifts
. They have declined 20% within the past 10 years due to houses and out buildings being renovated where nesting spaces in roofs are sealed off. So, if you would like to put up your own nesting box then have a look on our website at the large range of nesting boxes. From the traditional
wood nest boxes
to
woodcrete nest boxes
made to last years and not rot. Or maybe give a nesting box as a gift such as the cute
robin teapot nest box
. Don't forget if you want to encourage nesting birds in your garden keep feeders topped up and make sure the birds have access to
clean water
. And then come spring we hope you have many fledglings in your garden. Follow us on Twitter @
