What do birds eat now?

Posted by British Bird Food 14/05/2011 0 Comment(s)
Feeding garden birds should always be a pleasure, but some people are not sure what to feed at certain times of the year. It is correct to think that wild birds need a varied diet, just like we humans. So right now they are very active, flying around making nests (probably several until they get it right) and this consumes a lot of energy. The early nesters are already on their second brood and so are busy gathering food for the chicks. What tends to happen is that the adult birds will leave the nest early in the morning to start the days foraging, their first port of call is a garden feeding station so they can get breakfast for themselves quickly and get on with supplying the nest occupants with grubs and worms etc from gardens lawns and hedges. The adult birds need high energy food to boost their strength for the extra flying they have to do and also nutricious carbohidrates for the longer term energy to see them through the day. At British Bird Food we have designed specific mixes for different times of the year, they can also be fed throughout the year, and so you don't have to worry about what and when to feed. Right now we recommend Spring / Summer mix, this has suet and mealworms (top grade ingredients normally left out by the cheaper mixes) for the highSpring / Summer mix from British Bird Foodenergy boost with granulated peanuts, sunflower hearts and fruit for the longer term energy, there is also grit the help the adult birds with strong egg shells. Try our Spring / Summer mix today, in our unique returnable packaging, so we can re-use the bags and save a little more of the planets precious resources.
