Birds are going nuts!

Posted by David Baxter 01/10/2015 0 Comment(s)

Peanuts for wild birds - excellent quality.

Peanuts are a great source of nutrition for wild birds to eat, they contain oils and fibre for the digestion qualities that help birds survive the colder months of our British climate.

Here at British Bird Food we are extremely careful about the peanuts we buy and stock for you, so you can relay on top quality peanuts from us for your garden birds. At the moment (October) as our standard peanut, we are selling Brazilian peanuts size 60/70 (this means there are between 60 and 70 nuts per ounce, so they are quite bold, they have a lovely red skin finish and there are not many halves or chips. Of course all of our Peanuts have been afflatoxin tested before we offer them for sale , so you can be sure your garden birds will get the healthiest food possible.

We stock three grades of peanuts, standard (as above) granulated and premium grade. Our premium grade peanuts are Indian Java nuts, they have a pale skin colour and are 70/80 grade, so a slightly smaller nut than our standard, but the quality is exceptional. A very even sized nut with no defects, there may be an occasional half nut, but that can't be avoided with a natural product such as peanuts. Granulated nuts are just what they say, a top quality nut granulated down to a 4 - 5mm granule, which makes them ideal for feeding all year round. If you feed whole nuts, then make sure it is via a mesh feeder during breeding season as the whole nuts ca choke fledglings if swallowed whole, a mesh feeder allows the birds to only take out partial nuts away to the nest.

All of our peanuts are offered for sale in polythene bags that are returnable to us free of charge, so you can use them and re-seal the bag and when all the bags are empty (we ask you to save them up and send back a good few in one postage) you just put all the empty bags in one bag and seal it, then post it as a letter through the post box. They are returned to us and we re-use them again, on average we get three uses out of a bag and this is tremendous news for the environment. If you prefer, you can buy in bulk, the peanuts are packed in a paper sack and this is packed inside a cardboard box so it can navigate through the automated courier system without harm. The cardboard box is delivered to you next day usually ( you can guarantee this at checkout if you wish) and then you can take the bag or bags out and store them where you wish. Of course if you have selected the polythene bag option, then they will come as 5 x 5Kg bags in the box and you can take them out one by one and save lifting a heavy sack
