Squirrel proof feeder protection.

Wild bird feeding equipment that protects from squirrels.

It is bad luck when a squirrel or a family of squirrels decide to make you wild bird feeding station their particular larder, when their idea of fun is to chew through the feeder and watch all of that lovely wild bird food fall to the ground. This happened to us last week, we had put up a new wild bird feeding station in our new wildlife friendly meadow and just put a cheap plastic bird feeder up to see what would happen. For three weeks, everything was fine, the squirrels seemed happy to join the birds and they filled their boots (and bellies!) with sunflower hearts and suet balls, but after this time one of the squirrels decided he could not be bothered to hang upside down and reach into the peanut basket for the peanuts for the birds, so he just ripped the lid off the basket and tipped the nuts out onto the ground, that was the end for the unprotected peanut feeder. We replaced the peanut basket with a Squirrel Buster Peanut feeder, this proved a very popular decision with all the birds including a couple of Woodpeckers and a Nuthatch. So we should have known what to expect, the carefree days of Squirrel co-habitation with the wild garden birds was over, the Squirrels wanted to take over the bird feeding station whenever they visited and would run the birds off the seed feeders if they could. Two days later and a big hole appeared in the side of the  cheap plastic feeder, it had lasted about a month. So we have replaced the plastic feeder with an Onyx seed feeder - not Squirrel proof, but a lot stronger than the plastic one and they are guaranteed for life - even if a Squirrel damages it, so we thought it would be a good test for the Squirrels and for the bird feeder. So far so good. Of course there are hundreds of different feeders and squirrel proof devices on the market, but in our experience the Squirrel Buster family are the best and most reliable in the squirrel proof bird feeder range. Then you ave all the squirrel proof accessories that you can buy to protect your bird feeding equipment and have a little fun as well.
