Hedgehog house - buy now

Posted by British Bird Food 15/08/2014 0 Comment(s)

Hedgehog houses are ready for sale right now at British Bird Food. We have three to choose from and your spiky garden visitors will be interested in them now with a view to occupying a new home for the coming Winter months.

The Hedgehog population is dwindling at a rate of 25% per year, so they really do need every bit of help we can give them to survive. They do lots of good around the garden especially eating slugs, so we must bear that in mind at this time of year when it is tempting to throw the slug pellets around the veg patch. There are a few things you can do to protect your Hedgehogs from eating poisend slugs. I go into the veg plot every evening and remove any slugs by putting them in a bucket and taking them over the road and release them into the ditch. I also have a fence around the veg patch so Hedghogs can't get into it. I then put a few slug pellets in the middle of the patch, I have worked out that the slugs can't make it to the edge of the fence and so they expire in the veg patch, but you can only do this if your fence is a good one that won't allow the Hedgehogs to gain entry to the veg patch. Feeding Hedgehogs is a good way to help them, our own mix hedgehog food is a well balanced food that will keep them in good shape, we mix it a little sweet and this makes a good smell, which attracts the Hedgehogs to the feed. You could always set up a wildlife camera on your Hedgehog bowl and see if you can get pictures of your night time visitors.
