Prevent bird stikes
It is that time of year when we start to see the fledglings trying to emulate the flight of their parents. Lovely to watch, until you see a bird hit a window, not so nice to watch.
There are several things we can do in order to prevent birds flying into our windows; a major problem is when the birds can see straight through from one window to another, they think it is a tunnel and they can fly from one end to the other, so you might try to block out the way between the two windows by closing a door, or pulling the curtains or blinds. If this is not practical, you could try moving an object in between the windows. If you want to be sure, then the best method are window alert decals. These are ultra violet decals that glow with U.v that only birds can see, they are quite unobtrusive to us humans and they cling to the glass by static so there is no mess left on the window. They will fit inside or outside (outside is best) and can be removed for window cleaning.
If you use window alert decals, then you should position the decal in the line of sight through the window. Also, birds think that the reflection of sky and clouds is real, so position the decals on windows that display this reflection. Finally, birds are territorial, so they will defend their area, when they see their own reflection in the window they mistake it for an intruder and may attack. place the decals on windows that birds seem attracted to attack.
Our window alert decals
are effective for two years and have been proven to drastically reduce the number of fatal bird strikes. They cost £6.95 (incl' postage) for four decals and each decal will protect one square meter of glass, so use a pack of four to protect a large patio door set.
