buy your bees now

Posted by British Bird Food 26/03/2014 0 Comment(s)
Pollination is the most important thing to happen in your garden. By encouraging pollinating insects and bees you will not only benefit by increased yields of vegetables and better displays of flowers, but will also be increasing the population of beneficial insects in your environment. Why would you want to buy expensive / damaging chemicals, when you can have nature take care of your garden? Bumble bees are great pollinators and take very little looking after. You can buy a basic hive and a colony of bees from British Bird Food and you will have your own colony to pollinate your own garden. At the end of the year, the queens will venture forward out of the hive and find new homes in your garden to over-winter; then next Spring they will develop their own colonies and you will have made a difference to your environment. Bumble bees won't swarm or sting you, unless you do something to threaten them. So you can leave them in the garden and the children can carry on playing, just make sure everyone knows where the bees are and that they are not to touch the hive without the parents being there with them. It is quite alright to lift the lid of the hive and take a look at what is going on inside as long as you don't disturb them. Beneficial insects and bees are fantastic to have in your garden, Ladybirds eat 5,000 to 6,000 Aphids a year, Toads and Frogs will take care of slugs. Spiders will tackle the green and black flies - what more could you want!! [gallery]
