Hawthorne blossom out today
Now, I know we are in Shropshire, middle of nowhere, but today was the first time this year I have seen the white blossom of the Hawthorn hedge, (two weeks earlier than last year) a great indicator of Spring time and a welcome sight for many birds and people alike.
Much of the hedgerow is beginning to bud and this means the start of nest seeking for our garden birds, as soon as they can see cover for their nest they will be looking for the exact spot to build a nest and start the breeding season. in the next few weeks we will see the birds carrying small twigs and mud as well as soft moss and other nest building material. The Blackbirds are already building nest and they generally a re the first to do so, they build in evergreens and ivy as well as hedges.
See our help and advice
pages for tips on providing nesting material and of course take a look at our large range of nest boxes
for all sorts of birds.

Now is the ideal time to site a new nest box for your garden birds, before the hedge becomes covered with leaves.[/caption]
