Blackbird nest box

Posted by British Bird Food 25/08/2013 0 Comment(s)
Blackbird nest boxes are unusual, mainly because Blackbirds tend to be pretty self sufficient when  it comes to nest building. But the Wildlife World Blackbird nest box is so well made that it offers something that might tempt the Blackbirds in your garden to use it. The Blackbird nest box we have in stock, from Wildlife World is so well made from solid FSC timber that it will offer protection from the elements as well as predators, with a sloping roof that means the young birds or brooding adults are protected from above. We have not stocked Blackbird nest boxes previously as we have never found one that is right for the birds, but this one is superb and at £18.95 we know it is not cheap, but it will last for years and is a real quality product, so we decided to give it a go and see what happens. We have placed our Blackbird nest box in a dense hedge at the back of our garden, facing North East, but the direction is not so important with a Blackbird nest box, it is more to do with the right placement. We have a thick hedge with Ivy growing through it and I think this will be spot on for the Blackbirds next year. It is important to remember that the Blackbird is one of the first birds to start nesting, usually around end of January, so now is a good time to place your nest box for it to get 'weathered' in over the winter . Blackbirds do like a nice clean nesting place and so the nest box should be cleaned out after October and before January.
