Hedgehog homes - apply within:)

Posted by British Bird Food 24/05/2013 0 Comment(s)
This is the time of year when hedgehogs are out and about trying to find food to boost their energy levels from their long winter hibernation. They need have access to clean water and nutritious food, both of which are easy to provide. Finding a home is a different matter. Having slept all winter, the small mammals explore around the area to look for a mate and they also need to find a place to sleep, breed and eventually hibernate again. There are lots of obstacles in their way, balls of string, garden netting, polythene bags, broken glass, not to mention the natural predaters looking for the slow and infirm. There are lots of places for a hedgehog to sleep, we always make a pile of leaves and sticks from the raspberry pruning, I just add to this each year and it makes a lovely wild area in the hedge bottom for creatures to crawl under and find shelter, so it does not have to cost a lot to provide shelter. If you don't have access or space to make a wild / natural shelter, than you might like to look through our range of hedgehog homes we have for sale. They range in price from £19.95 to £44.95 and all of them are tried and tested. We also sell hedgehog food, if you want to encourage them into your garden. They do need a little help to get back into shape and you will be rewarded if you get to watch them. If you would like to film them, take a look through our time lapse cameras. Have a super bank holiday weekend.
