Help your Hedgehogs - now

Buy your Hedgehog food now!

Hedgehogs need to gain weight now in order to prepare them for the Winter months and their potential for hibernation.

All Hedgehogs need to weigh at least 600g before they go into their dormant state, if the temperature drops to -1°C then the Hogs will want to get up from their slumber and find a new bed with more insulation and there is unlikely to be any food around in the frozen, or snow covered ground, so they need to be fit and healthy and fat enough to survive a harsh Winter - it is too late once they have hibernated - so now is a really important time for Hedgehogs. Gain weight, get healthy nutrition, lots of fresh water and most importantly find a safe secure and warm hibernating shelter.

If you find a small Hedgehog in your garden, try to encourage it to stay, by feeding nutritious food (not bread) and fresh water (not cows milk).

Hoglets should be fed with a milk substitute such as Esbilac which contains all the fats, vitamins and minerals they need. Under no circumstances should you give them cow's milk which will kill them. Goat's milk with Goat's colostrum may be used for a short period of time if nothing else is available.

For expert advice find your nearest Hedgehog shelter and contact them for specific advice and to see if they can take the hog in for the Winter if you can't.
