Solitary Beehive

An interactive solitary bee and insect habitat constructed from sustainable FSC timber, with individual cell trays which can be opened for inspection and cleaning.

The solitary beehive is designed specifically designed to attract non-swarming bees, like the Red Mason bee, Leafcutter bee, and other solitary bees. These friendly bees do not swarm, are gregarious and safe around children and pets. The bees are naturally attracted to holes in wood and the solitary beehive provides habitat that has become harder to find in modern gardens.

A beehive that is both fascinating and educational.

The solitary beehive is designed to provide an educational aspect of nature. It is easily dismantled to see the formation of small cells where the eggs are laid and the other side of nature - where they have been visited by predators. Solitary bees are always welcome in our gardens, attracting solitary bees to the garden is not only safe, but beneficial to pollination of flowers, fruit and vegetables.

Positioning your solitary beehive

Find a visible, warm place facing between Southeast and South and in a sunny area for part of the day. It is best to have some soil close by and other food sources like flowers, orchids and fruit. Solitary bees will often roost during cold spells or just overnight and so the beehive should not be dismantled at these times.

Important information.

The solitary beehive is for wild creatures and so you might not see immediate habitation. Please ensure you read the supplied instructions for siting the beehive and provide a suitable habitat for the target species. The hive can then be re-visited 6 to 12 months later, or in the appropriate season to see if it is being used. If it is not being used after 24 months it is advisable to find an alternative location and to see what improvements you can make to provide an inviting habitat for your targeted species - flowers, woodpiles, rough areas of garden etc. Because many species are constantly searching safe refuse and nesting sites you may find an uninvited guest is using your product, this is all part of the natural world and all species should be made welcome in your garden.
