Feed Wild Birds - bird feeders and seed mix
Positioning of feeders
The Position depends on the geographical location of the area, and will vary on the size, layout and fauna of the site. If water is close by, or wide open space, or grass; will all change the variety and types of birds you will attract. The first fundamental to consider is the safety of the birds. If you or your neighbours have cats, or other bird predators, then see if you can site your table or feeder away from close cover, small birds often like to fly into a bush or shrub to and from the feeding station, if the feeder is in the open they feel safer when feeding.
The type of plants that are in the area are an influence on the variety of birds that reside there. (and remember, the ‘birds eye view’ doesn’t distinguish between your trees and those of your neighbour), even in the cities there can be a wide variety of woodland. So a balcony can be an ideal spot to feed Sparrows, Finches or Tits, if you have enough room for a window box, then plants will attract the birds, the feeders that stick to windows are designed for such positions. If you have a lager space, then a diversity of plant and tree species, will attract a wider variety of birds. Consider plants that produce berries, seeds and fruits, all of which are natural food sources. Allow a section of your garden to grow wild, even dead trees provide nesting sites and materials for bird as well as providing habitat for our smaller mammals.
